A Magical Evening in the Desert
When T and V reached out to me, they were in the early stages of planning their California vacation. They were visiting from Florida to celebrate their anniversary and wanted their trip to include something special. After seeing some of my photos of the Imperial Sand Dunes, they decided this would be the perfect place to mark their anniversary. Keep reading to find out how their Imperial Sand Dunes couple’s photos went!
The Perfect Spot
We met at Hugh T. Osborne Lookout Park just before sunset and walked across to the wilderness side of the sand dunes. This area is safer from off-highway vehicles (OHV) and offers pristine sand without tire tracks. The weather was breezy, and the sand was super soft underfoot, so we took off our shoes and began our adventure.
Capturing the Moments
T and V were an absolute joy to work with. They held hands, laughed, and ran through the dunes, clearly enjoying each other’s company. The view from the top of the dunes was breathtaking, with miles of sand stretching out and mountains in the distance.
A Surprise Proposal
One of the highlights of the evening was a surprise proposal. V had bought T a new wedding ring to replace the original one. He wanted to propose to her as a special anniversary gift. As T was looking away, V got down on one knee. When she turned around, her expression was priceless. It was a playful yet touching moment that added a wonderful layer to their photoshoot.
Adding a Creative Touch
As the sun set and darkness fell, I introduced lanterns to create a moody atmosphere. T and V loved this idea and brought out their polaroid camera, which they take on all their adventures. This allowed us to capture some unique shots that they’ll treasure forever.
Wrapping Up the Evening
We ended our session by trekking back across the dunes to our cars. The evening was not only fun but also incredibly beautiful. It was a privilege to capture T and V’s love and joy during their anniversary celebration.
Tips for Your Own Imperial Sand Dunes Photoshoot
- Best Time to Visit: Plan your visit during the transition from winter to spring or during the fall to avoid the extreme heat.
- Timing: Sunset and sunrise are ideal for photos due to cooler temperatures and beautiful lighting.
- Safety: Stick to areas away from OHV trails for a safer experience and cleaner sand.
- Footwear: Be prepared to walk barefoot as the sand can be tough to hike in shoes.
- Props: Consider bringing items like lanterns or a polaroid camera to add a personal touch to your photos.
