Couples Photos at Sentinel Meadow: Summer in Yosemite

Couples Photos at Sentinel Meadow: Summer in Yosemite

If you’re thinking about getting couples photos at Sentinel Meadow, here’s a little story that might help you picture what it could look like. My friends A and R reached out about a photoshoot in Yosemite. They wanted a mix of couples photos and family shots with their newborn baby girl, B. I was so excited. Not just because they’re close friends, but because Yosemite in early July is honestly one of my favorite times for photos. Weather’s nice. Not too hot. And the light is really good late in the day.

Starting at Cook’s Meadow

We met up at Cook’s Meadow just before sunset. If you’ve never been, it’s a flat open area with wooden boardwalks and views of El Capitan right behind you. It’s easy to get to and perfect for walking around while taking photos. Everything was green and full of life.

Wandering Through Sentinel Meadow

From there, we walked into Sentinel Meadow. R carried baby B while holding A’s hand. Super sweet moment. You could see Yosemite Falls way off in the distance. They stopped a few times for some kisses and hugs while I snapped away. The light was soft, and there were hardly any people around.

We ended up by the riverbank with Ribbon Falls in front of us. It was quiet. They took a minute just to stand there and breathe. That’s the kind of stuff I love to capture. Nothing forced. Just real moments.

Family Photos at Sentinel Beach

Our last stop was Sentinel Beach Picnic Area. It’s a bit more open and has some cool wide views of the cliffs. That’s where baby B really came into the photos. We got a bunch of family shots, and I could tell it meant a lot to them. It was their first time doing something like this since having their baby, and it felt really special to be there with them.

Why Yosemite Works So Well

Yosemite just works. You’ve got rivers, trees, cliffs, meadows, waterfalls… it’s all there. If you love being outside and want photos that reflect that, Yosemite makes sense. Whether it’s for an engagement, an anniversary, or just because—you won’t run out of spots.

A Few Quick Tips for Your Session

  1. Go early or late – Sunrise or sunset is best for good light and fewer crowds.
  2. Dress smart – Comfortable clothes and shoes you can walk in. Don’t stress about dirt.
  3. Bring snacks + water – You’ll be out walking around for a while.
  4. Know your spots – The park is huge. Having a plan helps. I can help with that.
  5. Be open – Some of the best moments happen when you’re not trying too hard.
