Angeles National Forest Elopement at Inspiration Point

KP and RJ found me on Google while searching for someone who really understood what they were looking for. They knew they wanted an Angeles National Forest elopement and had a clear vision: a short hike, amazing sunrise views, and a meaningful spot to share their ceremony with close friends and family.

Scouting the Right Spot

KP and RJ had a lot of special memories in Angeles National Forest already, so it felt like the right fit from the beginning. My job was to help them find the exact right place to bring that vision to life. Like I do with all my couples, I scouted several spots in person to make sure they matched what KP and RJ had in mind.

I had my dog with me when we scouted Inspiration Point Trailhead before sunrise. It was quiet, peaceful, and the views were everything they hoped for. A little down the road from the trailhead, I found a second location that was perfect for the ceremony. Private. Easy to reach. Open views. It felt right.

Elopement Day Begins

We started their elopement day early- like really early- before the sun even came up. I met them at their cabin in Wrightwood. KP and RJ were getting ready separately, so I captured all the little details while they prepped. Their boots were dusty and ready to go. Their dog wore a little tuxedo. They had a custom National Park-style sign with their new last name. I love getting to photograph those small things. They might not seem like much in the moment, but they tell the story later.

RJ headed out first in a separate car to make sure he didn’t see KP before the first look. We met at the trailhead with lanterns in hand. The hike started in near-dark. It was quiet, cool, and we had the trail to ourselves. RJ hiked ahead while I helped KP get ready for the big moment. Once we reached the spot, they shared their first look with the sun starting to rise behind them. The view was unreal, and so was the emotion. RJ turned around, saw KP, and immediately teared up.

Hiking, Laughing, and Taking It All In

After their first look, we kept following the trail. We paused now and then to soak it in and take photos. Nothing was rushed. One thing I always tell couples: we don’t have to be on a tight timeline. Let the moments happen. That’s where the magic is. KP and RJ were playful, emotional, and fully present with each other. It was awesome to witness and document.

The Ceremony with Friends and Family

Later that morning, we met their family and friends back at the trailhead. Everyone made their way to the ceremony spot. I helped set up and got RJ in place. KP walked down the dirt path with her dad. It wasn’t overly staged. It felt natural. Just like it should.

Their ceremony had emotional moments and jokes sprinkled in, just like their personalities. They exchanged vows with nature all around and their people by their side. It was honest and beautiful.

Tips for Planning Your Angeles National Forest Elopement

  • Go early: Sunrise is usually best for light and fewer people.
  • Bring layers: It can be cold early in the morning, even in summer.
  • Wear real hiking boots: Some trails have loose rock.
  • Pack headlamps or lanterns if you’re starting before sunrise.
  • Don’t forget snacks and water, especially if you’re inviting guests.
