Why Mesquite Flats for Couples Photos?
If you’re an adventurous couple looking for a unique location for your post-elopement photos, Mesquite Flats in Death Valley National Park is a fantastic choice. Imagine the fun and intimacy of exploring endless sand dunes, just the two of you, with hardly anyone else around. That’s exactly what A and M experienced when we took their post-elopement couples photos at Mesquite Flats. I’m here to share their story and some helpful tips for your own couples photos at this incredible spot.
A and M’s Post-Elopement Session
I first met A and M for their sunrise elopement ceremony at Artist’s Palette. The vibrant colors of the rocks made for an unforgettable backdrop. After the ceremony, we took a much-needed break to nap and change. Later in the day, we reunited at the Mesquite Flats Sand Dunes, ready for a more relaxed and playful session.
A and M had swapped their wedding attire for comfortable, casual clothes, perfect for exploring the dunes. As we ventured across the sand, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The untouched sand dunes were mesmerizing, creating a surreal landscape for their couples photos at Mesquite Flats.
The Experience at Mesquite Flats
One of the best things about Mesquite Flats is the sense of seclusion you can get, especially if you time your visit well. For A and M, the privacy allowed them to let loose and truly enjoy each other’s company. They wandered across the dunes, stopping often for kisses, hugs, and even some playful wrestling. Capturing these candid moments was a joy, and it highlighted how a post-elopement session can be just as special as the ceremony itself.
The combination of the natural beauty of the dunes and the genuine connection between A and M made for some unforgettable photos. Their laughter and love were contagious, making the session feel less like a photoshoot and more like a fun adventure with friends.
Tips for Your Couples Photos at Mesquite Flats
Timing is Everything
To make the most of your session, consider the time of day. Early morning and sunset offer the coolest (both visually and temperature-wise) periods of the day. The season matters as well. Winter and early spring can be the most comfortable times of the year to visit Death Valley.
Dress Comfortably
While it’s tempting to wear something fancy, you’ll enjoy the experience more if you’re comfortable. Make sure to wear clothes that you can move easily in. I like to take off my shoes whenever trekking through the sand dunes because it feels so soft, but also keeps my shoes from becoming weighted sand bags.
Bring Essentials
Death Valley can be extreme, so come prepared. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and maybe even a hat. The sand can get hot, so closed-toe shoes might be a good idea if you plan to explore a lot during the warmer months.
Make it Fun
The best photos often come from genuine moments. Don’t be afraid to be playful and spontaneous. Whether it’s running up a dune, dancing, or just enjoying a quiet moment together, those are the shots that will mean the most to you.
