Henry Cowell Elopement: A Sunrise Ceremony

Have you ever thought about getting married surrounded by towering trees? Let me tell you about the time I witnessed the magic of a Henry Cowell State Park Elopement Wedding. At the end of this post I share my favorite highlights and memories from S & J’s wedding day.

Sunrise in the Forest

Waking up before the crack of dawn, I met S + J in the dimly lit parking lot of Henry Cowell State Park. There’s something magical about starting your wedding day as the rest of the world sleeps, and for S + J, this sunrise elopement was the beginning of their forever. Opting for a sunrise ceremony wasn’t just about the soft light or the quiet- it was about finding that perfect moment in time where the world felt like it belonged solely to them.

As we explored into the heart of the park, the early morning fog played its part perfectly, lingering at the tops of the tall redwoods. The forest floor, moist with dew, added such a mystical touch. Then as the first rays of sunlight began to pierce through the dense canopy above, the park transformed into a fairytale setting. It was clear why S + J chose this enchanting setting for their elopement.

The Bride and Groom’s Attire

S, in her elegantly simple white elopement dress, glowed against the colors of the forest. Her choice to eventually ditch the heels in favor of bare feet wasn’t just for comfort but to also feel more connected with the forest floor. The bottom of her dress gathered memories in the form of branches, mud, and moss. And then there was her veil- a stunning sunlight catcher.

J’s choice of attire- a sharp blue suit paired with a pink tie – complemented the hues of S’s bouquet. Together, they looked as if they had stepped out of a woodland fairytale!

Finding the Perfect Ceremony Spot

Our search for the perfect ceremony spot led us to a cluster of hollowed-out redwoods. It was nature’s own cathedral. Standing between the old redwood trees, S + J shared their vows. To witness their exchange, surrounded by the still and quiet forest, with the occasional light mist, was to see love in its purest form. It was such an atmosphere of bliss and romance!

Post-Ceremony Highlights

Post-ceremony, S kicked off her shoes ready to play. The newlyweds embraced the freedom of their elopement, running hand in hand, S barefoot, along the trails. These moments of joy and laughter were a total reflection of their love story.

One of my favorite shots of the day was of their rings, laid on the moss-covered fence. It was a small detail, but one of the many ways to capture the details of a redwoods elopement.

Planning Your Redwoods Elopement

Eloping in a place as magical as Henry Cowell State Park offers couples the chance to start their journey together in a setting that’s both breathtaking and serene. For S + J, their sunrise ceremony in the redwoods was not just an elopement; it was an adventure. As they walked back through the forest, hand in hand, the sun higher now and the park slowly awakening, it was a beautiful beginning to their next chapter.

S + J’s Henry Cowell State Park elopement was a reminder that sometimes, the most profound moments of connection happen off the beaten path. If you’re dreaming of an intimate ceremony surrounded by nature, let this be your inspiration. Nature awaits your elopement!
